2009 Peel Island Marathon
In 2009 the Peel Island Marathon was held on Sunday the 3rd May.

It was a great success - with 51 boats competing this year in six divisions. The weather was perfect.

From totally worn out to lets do it again. What a race it had everything, flat water, rough water, 15knts to 25knts, sunshine to rain, deep water to sandbanks, intense competition, even starboard calls,capsizes etc.
Then when you got back the smell of the food was enough to drool for,the ladies sure know what a hungry sailor needs FOOD. Well done to those involved in the canteen.
Results and presentation said it all, all done by 4.30pm. A top effort by a good team. The starts all done to perfection, back up rescue boats around the island all visible, you always felt safe.
This could not have been possible without the efforts of those involved, particularly the ones on the day a big thankyou.

History
In 1969 the inaugural Cleveland Catamaran Marathon was run. This has developed over the years into the current Peel Island Marathon. which is sailed toward the end of the sailing season each year.
