Cleveland Yacht Club

Safety and Training

Cleveland Yacht Club has risk management procedures documented for both on and off water. We have a race box overlooking the sailing area and rescue boats on the water. PFDs are worn by all competitors and on water race officials while in club events and we have a database of member qualifications in such areas as boat licence, rescue boat endorsement, radio licence, first aid certification, qualifications as a sailing boat trainer and blue card holder. We actively encourage and support the upgrading of member skills and in most cases training courses are provided free of charge to members. We aim to have qualified people on hand if and when required.

In addition we run a sail training school with one-on-one training at a very affordable rates to educate people new to boating on how to get out on the Bay in a capable and safe manner. While our training staff are volunteers they have completed training certification, have First Aid certificates, boat licences with rescue boat endorsement and have blue cards for working with children.

There is no faster way to learn than with the assistance and friendly advise of more experiences sailors and there is no better way of honing your skills than joining in our racing program.
