CYC Sailing School
Cleveland Yacht Club runs a nonprofit sailing school from its grounds on Cleveland Point. The school is staffed by volunteers who give up their time and expertise to share their love of sailing. Through Government grants and fund raising throughout the year fees for sailing school activities are kept at a modest level.
Learn to Sail
Formal classes are held at the Club on Sunday morning from 9 am to 12 pm. The course runs for 5 weeks and costs $155. This cost includes associate membership to the club and an additional three weeks of informal training (Sunday Morning Sailing). Graduates wishing to sail regularly will need to become full members of the club. A $55 discount on the first year’s membership applies to graduates of the Sailing School.
Approximately 5 courses are run each season (Sept to June). Small class size and high instructor to student ratio ensure your learning experience is maximized. The next course commencing in September is fully subscribed, but contact our Training Coordinator to register your interest in future courses.Sunday Morning Sailing
Sunday Morning Sailing is conducted between 9 am and 12 pm Sunday mornings September to June. It is targeted at anyone new to sailing and offers the opportunity to develop skills in a safe and supported environment. Generally a number of small races will be conducted allowing sailors to practice starts, fine tune general sailing skills, learn to apply rules and tactics. Informal instruction (mentoring) is available, and a support boat will be near by.
Cost of this Sunday Morning Sailing is club membership plus $10 per person including boat hire or $5 if you have your own boat.Try Sailing
Due to the high demand of the Learn to Sail program we have developed a Try Sailing program for anyone with little or no experience of sailing. A member of our club will take you out in their boat and let you get a feel for sailing before committing the time and expense to a full course.
Various times for Try Sailing are available and cost $10 per person for a minimum of 45 minutes sailing. Contact our Training Coordinator for more information or make a booking.
Club Racing
Club boats can also be hired by full members for $5 per person plus race fees for Sunday afternoon races. Boat hire is subject to availability
