The Briefing
Before each race there is a briefing to go over the course for the day, wind predictions and tides are discussed.
The Handicaps

The starting sequence
While the briefing is important, wind and conditions may change between the time you get the briefing and when you are on the starting line. In that case the starting crew may change the course. You need to know your flags to userstand the new course.

Just as important is the interpretation of these rules and to assist there is another document you can read called the Casebook Supplement
